Q&A
Introduction to education in Malta?
Malta is a Commonwealth country with a British education model. Malta's educational resources are very rich, with both public and private schools. There are 340 schools in the country. Public schools are funded by the government from elementary school to university and provide 16 years of free education.
Elementary schools in Malta have a six-year period as in China. After graduating from elementary school, students will take the middle school entrance examination, and then enter the national public middle school or Catholic school to receive a five-year secondary education. After 5 years of education, when the student is 16 years old, they need to take the SEC 0-level test. This test must pass subjects such as mathematics, English and Maltese to pass. Eligible candidates can choose to take a Form 6 course at a foundation school. Form 6 is a two-year course. After the course is completed, students can apply for university exams and study at different universities. The University of Malta programme is three years long and the master's programme is one year. Malta is very similar to China, with a national curriculum and assessment system.
