Santorini
The ancient name of Santorini was Thera, which was later changed to Santorini in 1207 in honor of Saint Irene. Santorini (Santorini) is an island ring composed of a group of volcanoes in the Aegean Sea 200 kilometers southeast of the Greek mainland. The largest island on the Santorini ring is also called Santorini, also known as Thera Island ( Thira). Santorini is located at the southernmost tip of the Cycladesis island complex, with an island area of 96 square kilometers and a coastline of 69 kilometers. It has a population of about 14,000 people, mostly Greeks. Santorini consists of 3 small islands, 2 of which are inhabited and the middle one is a sleeping volcanic island. There have been many volcanic eruptions in history, the most severe in 1500 BC. The center of the island collapsed in a large area, and the original circular island took on the shape of a crescent. The town center of Santorini is Fira, located on the west coast of the island.
