Cathedral of Our Lady of Pilar
The Cathedral of the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar is located on the Pilar Square in Zaragoza, the capital of the autonomous region of Aragon, Spain. "Mother of the Spanish people", known as the first Notre Dame church in history.
Our Lady of Pilar means "Our Lady of the Pillar". According to legend, St. James, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, preached to Zaragoza and saw the Virgin Mary appearing on a pillar on January 2, 40 AD. Asking him to bring Christianity to the country is said to be her only apparition before her ascension. The church was built from 1681 to 1872 in Baroque architectural style. It is rectangular in shape, 130 meters long and 67 meters wide. The four tall spiers make its magnificent figure visible from a distance. The church consists of a nave, two aisles and two chapels made of bricks, which is very spectacular.
