Texila
Texila is located about 50 km northwest of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, and 35 km southeast of Rawalpindi with a population of 200,000 (1981). It is a famous ancient city with a history of 2,500 years, its Buddhist ruins are more than 2,000 years old and cover 2,500 square kilometers, is the center of the world-famous Gandhara art and one of the richest archaeological sites in South Asia. Famous Chinese monks such as Faxian and Xuanzang visited here. The ruins of the ancient city of Texila are also world famous archaeological sites and were once a Buddhist center.
