Castelo de Sao Jorge
The Sao Jorge Castle is located in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and is a landmark building in Lisbon. Part of the walls of the castle of São Jorge were built by the Visigoths, and the entire city can be seen from the maze-like walls. The Tejo River flows around the wall and acts as a warning. Here people can better appreciate the city's architectural art: the futuristic castle and drawbridge from Alfama to the distant urban area, and the open-air ruins of the Carmo church (Carmo) in the city center. From the time of San Denis to the time of Manuel, the castle has been used as a royal residence. It is a beautiful place to walk: gardens, ponds, a few swans or peacocks, etc. It was successively used by the Romans, Visigoths, Moors Occupied by Christians and Christians, it has been used many times as the military, governmental and administrative center of Portugal. In 1940, Salazar ordered the demolition of all buildings built after Manuel. Most of the castles we see today were built during the Salazar period. The towers and walls were built with stone left over from the original castle.
