Kundasang War Memorial
This was established for the British and Australian soldiers who died in the war. There are: British Garden, Australian Garden, Borneo Garden and Shensi Garden. Each garden is planted with a flower representing its homeland to pay tribute to the soldiers who died here. One of the small shops is covered with newspapers, maps and subsequent commemorative materials about the war.
The Kundasang World War II Memorial is to commemorate the Sandakan prisoners of war who died during World War II. At that time, 1787 Australian and 641 British prisoners of war died between Sandakan and Lannao, and only six Australian prisoners of war survived. During World War II, Japan successfully invaded Sandakan, and the North Borneo Federal Army stationed in Sandakan was wiped out.
